Hi, Katelyn! Here’s Your September Roller-coaster Week! September 27, 2010
This past week has been absolutely crazy! It’s been one heck of a roller-coaster! I’ve been on Cloud 9 and down-under all in one week.
Last Monday, I had an incredible time with Julian, the little boy I work with at Horseplay. Horseplay is a non-profit organization providing recreational horseback riding opportunities for children with mental or physical challenges. Julian is the sweetest little kid. I’m not sure what is “wrong” with him; he does not have cerebral palsy or down-syndrome like many of the children we work with. He’s an awesome little kid who can carry on the most intellectual yet hilarious conversations with teens and adults. I love him. He makes my day 150% better. Mondays are, well, Mondays. He makes Mondays fabulous.
Tuesday was just there; it was pretty normal.
On Wednesday I woke up sick to my stomach with a horrible headache. I did good to shut my alarm off. Over-achiver me decided to go on to school to take a large test over Lord of the Flies in English. I didn’t want to miss it after studying so much for it. (I ended up making a 95 on it!) I came home after English. Luckily, I didn’t miss anything in Calculus and Accounting. And band? Yeah, drum majors get sick too so I really just don’t care what anyone has to say on that matter. I had all intentions of going back for after-school band, but I couldn’t keep anything down or stand up without feeling dizzy. I slept the entire day. It felt good to just sleep and not worry about anything.
Thursday, I felt better when I woke up and first went to school. After English and Calculus, I started feeling sick again, but I kept going and stayed all day, including after school band rehearsal.
The next part is so important that it gets to be in blockquotes.
We went outside for band at 1:30 right after we checked roll. We practiced from 1:30 to 5:30. It was super hot, but we had a pretty good rehearsal. When I got inside the band room from practice, I immediately checked my phone since, well, it’s always attached to me. I had twitter updates and other texts and one missed call from an unrecognizable number. Since it wasn’t my parents or anyone that might need me to call them as soon as possible, I decided I’d check it when I got home. On my way home, I checked the voicemail. It was from my admissions advisor at Belmont University- my dream school!! He called to say that I was accepted! Apparently, even though I applied in May and requested that current transcripts be sent from my school to Belmont in May, Belmont had just then received my transcripts that week. I must say, it’s typical Franklin County to have not sent in transcripts when I requested.
I’m going to Belmont!!! It’s a dream come true.
We had an away game Friday night. We didn’t march the show. I got pretty fed up with stuff Friday; I’m not going to lie.
Saturday was our first competition. Our performance was good, but it could have been so much better. Kayla and I got a 2 while everyone else gots 1s. We listened to our judges comments today. She was pretty off the wall. There are a few things we’re going to change, but the main things she said our things we’re doing that our band director doesn’t want to change. She was… weird. Our band director told us that she cut this amazing former drum major of ours down to literally nothing at his first competition as drum major, and the nest week she sang his praises after he changed just a few things. Whatever, lady. We’re doing what we were told. Thanks for the input, though.
I officially lost two best friends Saturday two. After scores were announced, my “best friend” put “Everybody got 1 except drum major! HAHAHA!” on her facebook. I had immediately started crying after coming off the field from scores. Some amazing people finally got me calmed down before I had to go change. While changing, I checked my phone and saw that update, which made my cry even more. Tons of people saw it. I don’t care if she meant it or not. She shouldn’t have put that on there. What kind of best friend it that. And my other “best friend” thought it was just lovely and peachy keen. So much for best friends? I’ve got some pretty darn good new ones.
Yesterday, I slept and slept and slept. It was, again, lovely to sleep without cares.
Today was an accomplishment. I’m surprised I got through today. I got a lot of graded things back in English, the most important being my paper over Baba in The Kite Runner, one of our summer reading books. I got a straight up 100 on it! I was so excited! I also made a 95, the highest grade in the class, on my most recent Calculus test. I also have the highest average in the class with a 99.44. YES!!
It even feels like fall now! Well, except for the much-needed rain.
xoxo,
Katelyn
